Eye Protection for Work and Sports

Overview

There are many types of protective eyewear. And the lenses come in a variety of thicknesses. How thick your lenses should be depends on your activities and any eye conditions you have.

The lenses in these glasses or goggles should meet national safety standards. Regular glasses usually don't give enough protection. These lenses can be prescription or nonprescription. Safety goggles may be worn over regular eyeglasses. Face shield and helmet combinations are available that can be used in contact sports.

People with only one functional eye should wear sports eye protectors under their sport face mask (such as a football helmet) for added protection.
